The Camino del Norte, the Northern Way, is a less-traveled route that begins at the French border in the city of Irún (some begin 35 km back in Biarritz). The path runs along the Spanish coast for about 620 km (385 mi) before turning inland along another 150 km (93 mi) of trails. The route then meets the Camino Francés in Arzúa with another 40 km (25 mi) to Santiago. If I walk a second Camino, this is the one I’d choose. Because of the “path less traveled” and all that, yes, but also I love the coastline and the option to turn inland after about 440 km (270 mi) and join the Camino Primitivo, the Original Way. This route officially begins in Oviedo and is considered, as its name explains, the original pilgrimage route.
